Panchayat

A Panchayat is a body of elected representatives of the people to administer the affairs of the Panchayat Raj institutions. In the case of a Gram Panchayat, it is the main body that implements the decisions of the Gram Sabha and carries out the day-to-day administration. The main components of a Panchayat are: President: He is the head of the Panchayat. He presides over the meetings and supervises the overall activities of the Panchayat. Vice President: He assumes the responsibilities in the absence of the President. Ward Members: Representatives elected from each ward of the Panchayat. Standing Committees: These are sub-committees formed to facilitate decision-making, such as finance, development, welfare, health, education, etc.

History of Grama Panchayat

Mulakulam Grama Panchayat, comprising the villages of Mulakulam and Kaduthuruthy, is a village panchayat situated in the Kaduthuruthy Block of Vaikom Taluk in Kottayam District, covering an area of 26.15 square kilometers. It is bordered by Piravom Municipality and Elanji Panchayat to the north, Elanji and Njeezhoor Panchayats to the east, Thalayolaparambu and Velloor Panchayats to the west, and Njeezhoor and Kaduthuruthy Panchayats to the south. Mulakulam Panchayat began functioning as a Village Panchayat in 1953 under the leadership of an elected committee.
